Code of Ethics

Effective date: 7/1/2025

We're building something meaningful for educators, by educators. This Code helps us keep Lumia safe, respectful, and inspiring for everyone.

  1. We show up with respect.

  • We treat each other with kindness, professionalism, and care, like colleagues.

  • Discrimination or harassment of any kind (including race, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or background) has no place here.

  • We offer feedback thoughtfully, assume good intent, and keep the focus on ideas.

  1. We honor creators and give credit.

  • Share only what you've made, have permission to use, or is clearly marked for sharing (like Creative Commons).

  • When you use or get inspired by someone else's work, give them credit.

  • Misrepresenting someone else's work as your own breaks trust and won't be tolerated.

  1. We protect privacy.

  • Don't post personal details about students, families, or colleagues.

  • If you're sharing something with names, photos, or identifying info, make sure you have clear permission and follow any laws that apply (like FERPA or GDPR).

  • When in doubt, keep it general. Respect privacy like you'd want yours respected.

  1. We create with equity in mind.

  • Share resources that are inclusive, culturally aware, and support a wide range of learners.

  • Avoid bias, stereotypes, or assumptions that could harm or exclude others.

  • Think about accessibility. Whether someone has limited internet access, uses assistive technology, or is still building digital skills, your content should be usable by all.

  1. We keep it useful and clear.

  • Share resources that are accurate, age-appropriate, and aligned with what teachers actually need.

  • Add context: grade level, subject, and how to use it so others can put it to work right away.

  • If you spot something that's wrong or outdated, flag it. That's how we keep this space reliable.

  1. We use Lumia with intention

  • This is a space for connection, creativity, and collaboration- not ads, spam, or self-promotion.

  • Keep your account secure, and speak up if something seems off.

  • By being here, you agree to follow Lumia's terms of use and play by the rules.

  1. We grow together.

  • Sharing is powerful. So is listening. We're all here to learn from one another.

  • We welcome different teaching styles and experiences, and we leave competition at the door.

  • Your voice helps shape Lumia. When asked for input, we hope you'll share it!

  1. Accountability

If someone steps outside this code, we may take action to keep the community safe. This might mean a warning, content removal, or removal from the platform, depending on the situation. If something doesn't feel right, report it in good faith.

We're glad you're here. Thanks for helping us make Lumia a community where educators thrive.
